Busted: Anti-piracy raids on Qatar resellers
by Shijaz Abdulla on 27.12.2010 at 16:44Anti-piracy authorities in Doha, Qatar recently collaborated with the Qatar Ministry of Justice and Microsoft Gulf, a member of the Business Software Alliance (BSA), the world’s foremost advocate for the software industry, to conduct raids on three Doha-based IT resellers. The raids resulted in the confiscation of CDs and PCs loaded with suspected counterfeit Microsoft software, including Windows and Office.
“The Ministry of Justice is keen on ensuring that the steady economic growth being witnessed in Qatar at present is not compromised by acts of piracy that adversely affect the country’s IT sector. The anti-piracy raids being conducted in Qatar send a strong message that intellectual property rights violation of any kind will not be tolerated in the country. The Ministry of Justice will continue to extend all possible support to the concerned authorities to curb software piracy in Qatar,” said Abdullah Ahmad Qayed, Director of Intellectual Property Center, Qatar’s Ministry of Justice.
“Over the years, we have been receiving strong support from the Qatar Ministry of Justice and concerned anti-piracy authorities, which has been instrumental in the sustained success of our anti-piracy initiatives in Qatar. The latest raid on three resellers in Doha will go a long way in sending a clear message to counterfeiters and IT resellers that any form of piracy will be firmly dealt with,” said Jawad Al Redha, BSA Chair in the Gulf region.
Qatar Partner Academy 2010-2011

Doha’s Hotel IT Managers get-together
by Shijaz Abdulla on 16.05.2010 at 13:51Last evening, my colleague Mamoun and I were invited to a get-together of Doha’s Hotel IT Managers at the Intercontinental Hotel, Doha.
We had some great conversations around Microsoft solutions for the hospitality industry and I had a chance to discuss Microsoft Surface, Unified Communications and Windows 7 adoption issues. What was more captivating was the community that the IT Managers have formed as a platform to foster the informal exchange of information and ideas and to collectively discuss technology and challenges.

Craig Mundie at Doha, Qatar
by Shijaz Abdulla on 22.04.2010 at 14:12Craig Mundie, Chief Research & Strategy Officer at Microsoft was in Qatar yesterday and spoke to customers at a TechTalk jointly organized by Microsoft QSTP and the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) at the Four Seasons Hotel yesterday evening.
Craig Mundie provided great insight into the current research being done at Microsoft, the “client+cloud” strategy, and the trends in modern computing. He discussed how these trends will create a startling transformation in how humans and computers interact, and how computers will increasingly work on our behalf, rather than at our command.
Earlier in the day, he spoke on similar lines to students and faculty at Qatar University.

Citrix VDI event at Doha, April 7

Mannai Trading, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner on Server Virtualization and many other competencies, held an event jointly with Citrix and HP on 7th April at the Intercontinental Hotel, Doha, Qatar. The event mainly focused on Desktop Virtualization.
Nabil Khalil, Deputy General Manager at Mannai, Alex Filocca and Raja Slaiman Haidar from Citrix, Rajat Rallan and Bechara from HP were some of the speakers at the event.
The event was well attended and gave us the opportunity to keep the Qatar customer community to be informed of the strategic alliance between Microsoft and Citrix in the VDI space.
