Changes to the web site

by Shijaz Abdulla on 03.05.2009 at 16:00

I am decommissioning the www.shijaz.com web site. Effective tomorrow, www.shijaz.com will directly resolve to this blog, instead of the web site.

A brief history:

The web site was started in 2004, before I had this blog. I used to write technical articles on Windows Server, Exchange Server and ISA Server that were uploaded to this site.

Some of those who benefited from these articles have left very kind words in the comments page. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your words.

Impact:

Many internet forums and a few websites carry links to some of these articles, and once my web site is gone, these will become dead links. This wouldn’t matter much because most of the content on the web site is already outdated – for the simple reason I pay more attention to the blog. The web site contains articles on Windows Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003 and ISA Server 2004/2006.

Thanks to free email hosting from Windows Live and the Blogger platform from Google, I find no justification to pay for hosting solely for the purpose of keeping a few old articles online on the web. I will still be having a copy of the content in case anyone is interested. I am also open to having the articles hosted elsewhere if anyone is interested.

This blog will continue as it is and I will continue posting to it.

…but hosting is so inexpensive these days. Plus all those pages you’ve already created will help you from a SEO perspective.

    Thanks for the tip.

The pages on the website that I decommissioned are very few. Much of my domain’s ‘SEO fame’ comes from this blog, and the URLs of these pages don’t change.

Hosting is inexpensive, but it is still a recurring expense that doesnt add much value, and the economic weather these days isn’t so fair. 🙂
